One of the most interesting conceptual projects of our studio was the development of the industrial design of the SolPhone mobile phone, an autonomous communication device designed for long—term operation without connecting to an electrical network.
The project was based on the idea of creating a maximally energy-efficient phone for use in expeditions, remote areas, emergency services and other conditions where regular battery charging is impossible. To achieve this goal, the design assumed the use of a display based on E-Ink technology, a solar battery and a secure communication channel.
The work on the project included a full cycle of industrial design. At the first stage, various layout options for internal components, device dimensions, ergonomics of holding and the location of controls were investigated. Then several variants of the exterior design of the case with different color solutions and finishing materials were developed.
The visualizations clearly show the desire to create the most concise and technological product. The case is made in the form of a solid aluminum structure with smooth surface transitions, and the keyboard is integrated into the overall geometry of the front panel. Thanks to the use of E-Ink, the display remains legible even in bright sunlight, which corresponds to the basic concept of the device.
Special attention was paid to the minimum energy consumption and durability of the product. The concept involved the use of a solar panel to constantly recharge the built-in battery, so that the phone could remain operational much longer than traditional mobile devices.
In addition to developing the appearance, detailed three-dimensional product models, presentation visualizations and color options were prepared, allowing us to evaluate the future product even before manufacturing a prototype.
The SolPhone project demonstrates our studio's experience in developing conceptual electronic devices, where industrial design is closely linked to engineering, ergonomics, and operational features.
