POLARUS

A superheavy modular Arctic crawler platform designed to operate in the harshest climatic conditions on Earth.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

POLARUS (Polar Operations Logistics & Arctic Research Utility System) designed for use in areas of the Far North, Arctic and Antarctic, where there is no road infrastructure and extremely low temperatures, deep snow, ice, hummocks, wetlands and tundra are present.

1. The main directions of application:

  • provision of polar stations;
  • transportation of people and heavy goods;
  • construction and maintenance of oil and gas infrastructure;
  • mining enterprises;
  • energy facilities;
  • emergency rescue operations;
  • medical mobile complexes;
  • mobile command posts;
  • scientific expeditions;
  • autonomous expeditionary bases.

The platform is designed for long-term autonomous operation away from the service infrastructure.

2. General concept and design

The project is based on the idea of the Arctic Monolith.

The appearance should convey four key ideas:

  • great power;
  • absolute stability;
  • Calm down;
  • confidence.

The shaping is as clean and concise as possible:

  • large smooth panels;
  • minimum of external details;
  • easy service access;
  • integrated equipment;
  • high maintainability.

The front part resembles the head of a polar bear - a symbol of power and confident forward movement. The corporate identity is based around the geometric silhouette of a polar bear and the POLARUS logo.

3. Engineering solutions

Basic engineering principles:

  • modular architecture;
  • single cargo platform;
  • replaceable functional modules;
  • high rigidity power frame;
  • insulated sealed body;
  • low specific pressure on the ground;
  • independent engineering systems;
  • backup of critical nodes;
  • easy maintenance;
  • the possibility of long-term autonomous operation.

The platform provides for the integration of modern communication systems, navigation, satellite communications, remote monitoring and various energy solutions.

5. Possible extensions and upgrades

A single platform allows you to create a family of specialized machines.:

  • cargo transport;
  • passenger all-terrain vehicle;
  • mobile laboratory;
  • medical module;
  • rescue complex;
  • headquarters;
  • drilling rig;
  • energy module;

  • crane-manipulator version;
  • unmanned version;
  • hybrid power plant;
  • fully electric version;
  • two-link modification of ultra-high cross-country capability.

6. The platform

POLARUS is not a separate machine, but a universal engineering platform for Arctic exploration. The concept combines modern industrial design, modular architecture and a high level of
adaptability to various tasks. Thanks to its scalability, simplicity of design and the possibility of deep modernization, POLARUS is able to become the basis of a whole family of heavy Arctic equipment of a new generation.
